Wespoort

Region:  Vredendal – South Africa

Crop: Peppers and Tomatoes

Type of Structure:  Closed Tropic (Shine) 6.4m with Gable End Windows, automated curtains, thermal screen & climate control.

Description of Project:

Vredendal is an area that gets extremely hot in summer with fairly high humidity in winter. In this greenhouse we have installed a thermal screen used to moderate the summer temperatures and reduce the high radiation common in that area in summer.  All four sides can open automatically for ventilation and the gable-ends have automated windows that can open to allow further ventilation through the structure. Also fitted is a misting system that will allow, along with the airflow, for evaporative cooling as well as increasing humidity levels during hot, dry summer days. The four side curtains also have anti-insect netting behind them to allow for protection from pests such as whitefly, which can be very problematic in this area.
